so go to hither https://www.factorio.com/contour
Then click on link with steam account, if it fails, check if you lot are logged in to steam in the browser, dont know if you need to be that.
Or try to login ingame, when it is launched from steam.

Registration is required for downloading mods and, I think, multiplayer over official servers. You can play vanilla singleplayer without an business relationship.

This is correct. online multiplayer and downloading mods crave an account.

I just don't become why would anyone put the same login info of their steam into Factorio site, and why would Factorio enquire united states to do it.
That is very uncommon and weird.
I've never seen, anywhere, a site/company/game that recommends/asks yous to put your login info from somewhere else.
Forgive me, merely it sounds very sketchy..
Really, generally you would see the other way around. You would run across "Please do not apply any login info you've used earlier. Use a new and different one".

Username not password, so you lot have the same name ingame as on steam, so it is easier for people to know who y'all are. Username are NOT the password.

I apologize, I read it wrong, I am too tired..

Past the fashion, the REASON they do it on the website and not on Steam is because it's a non-Steam game besides, and a lot of players don't play it on Steam. Aforementioned for why modding isn't a "workshop" like Steam.

Btw, registration only saves your user-name on "REGISTERED" servers. If you don't want to practice any of that and but want to play with a close friend or 2, take the host uncheck the box "Verify user identity". That will brand your private game not apply online authentication for user-names or for game ownership. It's the same selection as in Minecraft.

how come up i cannot log in to the game anymore? I launch it only through Steam and have a new Factorio account and an onetime Steam account, but there is no longer an option on Factorio website to link my Factorio game account to Steam? what am i doing incorrect?

You lot can try this:

Goto the main factorio.com website, click login at top, apply the "login with Steam" widget.
Once that is finished authenticating, goto your profile page and check that your Factorio countersign (& login proper name) listed there matches what you are trying to use to login in-game.
Modify / update them if needed.
